The United Nations has welcomed the peace agreement reached between the United States and Iran, calling it a “critical step toward regional stability.” The deal, mediated by Pakistan with support from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, commits both nations to permanently end military operations and reopen the Strait of Hormuz for international shipping on June 19, 2026.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres praised the breakthrough, urging all parties to honor their commitments and continue dialogue on nuclear and security issues. He emphasized that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would ease global energy concerns and reduce risks for international trade routes.
Global institutions, including the European Union, also expressed optimism, noting that the agreement could reshape Middle Eastern geopolitics if successfully implemented. However, observers cautioned that challenges remain, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear program and ongoing conflict in Lebanon.
