Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has criticised the police action against students during the recent CJP-led “Sansad Chalo” protest, urging the government to engage with the demonstrators and listen to their concerns. Sharing his views on social media, Dosanjh said students should not have been treated in such a manner and appealed to the authorities to address their demands through dialogue rather than force.
Referring to the police crackdown during the protest march in Delhi, Dosanjh described the incident as unfortunate and stressed that the voices of young people deserve to be heard. He also acknowledged that his remarks could once again invite criticism, recalling the backlash he faced after supporting the farmers’ protest in 2020–21.
The actor’s comments came after clashes broke out during the student-led demonstration, where police used tear gas and baton charges to disperse protesters marching towards Parliament. The protest was organised over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and demands for reforms in the education system.
Dosanjh’s statement has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with supporters praising his stand for students while others criticised his intervention. His remarks add to the growing public debate over the handling of student protests and the demand for greater transparency and accountability in the examination system.
