Ajinkya Rahane, veteran Indian batter and former Test captain, has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a distinguished career that spanned over a decade. Rahane made the announcement on July 30, 2026, through an emotional video message, signing off with the words “Cap 278, signing off.”
Rahane represented India in 85 Tests, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20Is, scoring more than 5,000 Test runs with 12 centuries and 26 fifties. He was widely admired for his calm temperament and overseas performances, particularly his leadership during India’s historic 2-1 Test series win in Australia in 2020–21 after the team’s collapse in Adelaide.
In ODIs, Rahane scored nearly 3,000 runs, including three centuries, while also contributing in T20Is and the Indian Premier League, where he played over 200 matches across six franchises. His farewell message reflected on his journey from Dombivli, Mumbai, to wearing the India cap, emphasizing that he always put his country and team ahead of himself.
