The 8th BRICS Anti-Drug Working Group Meeting was held virtually under India’s BRICS Presidency, bringing together senior officials and experts from member nations to strengthen cooperation against drug trafficking and abuse. The meeting reaffirmed the collective commitment of BRICS countries to combat the global drug menace through coordinated strategies and information sharing.
Delegates discussed enhancing cross-border collaboration, intelligence exchange, and joint operations to dismantle international drug networks. Special emphasis was placed on tackling synthetic drugs, precursor chemicals, and emerging narcotics that pose new challenges to law enforcement agencies.
India highlighted the importance of capacity building, technology-driven monitoring, and community awareness programs to curb drug abuse. Proposals included strengthening legal frameworks, expanding rehabilitation initiatives, and promoting youth-focused campaigns to prevent addiction.
The Working Group also reviewed progress made in previous meetings and outlined future action plans aligned with the BRICS vision of inclusive governance and sustainable development. Officials noted that the initiative supports global efforts to safeguard public health and security.
The meeting concluded with a joint statement underscoring the need for continued cooperation, resilience, and innovation in addressing drug-related threats across BRICS nations.
