The Naqshband Sahib area in Srinagar remains under tight security for the second consecutive day, with police and paramilitary forces sealing off routes leading to the Martyrs’ Graveyard.
Authorities have erected barricades, concertina wires, and checkpoints around Nowhatta, Khawaja Bazaar, Khanyar, and adjoining localities to restrict movement and prevent gatherings.
The restrictions follow the July 13 anniversary of the 1931 killings, when 22 Kashmiris were shot dead outside Srinagar Central Jail. Traditionally, political leaders and citizens visit the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib to pay tributes.
Since 2020, the day has been removed from the list of gazetted holidays, and official commemorations have ceased. Leaders from the National Conference and PDP reported being stopped or placed under house arrest while attempting to reach the site.
Authorities cite law and order concerns as the reason for continuing restrictions into July 14, keeping the Naqshband Sahib area sealed for a second day.
