Union Minister Manohar Lal on Monday said that more than 90 lakh houses have been allotted to beneficiaries across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), marking a significant achievement in the government’s affordable housing mission.
Addressing a public programme, the minister said the scheme has transformed the lives of millions of poor and middle-income families by providing them with safe and permanent housing. He noted that the focus has been on ensuring transparency, timely delivery and inclusion of eligible beneficiaries.
Manohar Lal said special attention has been given to women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and economically weaker sections, with many houses registered in the names of women to promote social empowerment.
The minister added that the use of technology, direct benefit transfer and geo-tagging has helped improve monitoring and reduce delays in construction and allotment under the scheme.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana aims to achieve the goal of ‘Housing for All’, and the government remains committed to accelerating implementation to ensure that every eligible family has access to a pucca house with basic amenities.
