At least 19 people lost their lives and four others were injured after a tragic road accident in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district on Monday morning.
According to police, a tipper lorry carrying gravel collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus near Chevella. The impact caused the gravel to spill onto the bus, trapping several passengers inside.
Among the 19 victims were 10 women, and the bus driver, who was travelling to Hyderabad from Tandur, was also among the deceased. Police said the exact number of passengers on board could not be immediately confirmed, as the injured survivors were in a state of shock and unable to provide details.
Rescue teams used earthmovers to remove debris and extricate passengers from the wreckage. Relief and recovery operations were carried out at the site throughout the morning.
Expressing deep anguish over the tragedy, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Shivadhar Reddy to supervise rescue operations on a war footing. The Chief Minister also instructed ministers to reach the accident site and ensure that the injured are shifted to Hyderabad for advanced medical treatment.
