A total of 492 climbers, including 95 Indians, have registered to scale Mount Everest during the 2026 climbing season. Nepal’s Department of Tourism confirmed the figures, noting that permits have been issued to climbers from across the world as the spring window opens for expeditions.
Officials stated that the Indian contingent is among the largest national groups this year, reflecting the country’s growing interest in high-altitude mountaineering. Climbers will attempt the summit from the southern route via Nepal, with Sherpa guides and support teams playing a crucial role in logistics and safety.
The Everest climbing season typically runs from April to early June, when weather conditions are most favorable. This year’s numbers highlight continued global enthusiasm for the world’s highest peak despite challenges of overcrowding, environmental concerns, and risks associated with extreme altitude.
