Patna, March 17: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has swept the Rajya Sabha elections in Bihar, winning all five seats in a decisive victory. The ruling coalition’s candidates — including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and BJP national president Nitin Nabin — secured their positions comfortably, aided in part by four Opposition MLAs who skipped voting, weakening the Mahagathbandhan’s numbers.
The clean sweep underscores the NDA’s strong legislative hold in the state, with all five of its nominees — Nitish Kumar, Nitin Nabin, Ram Nath Thakur, Upendra Kushwaha, and Shivesh Ram — entering the Upper House. The results mark a significant setback for the Opposition, which had the arithmetic to win at least one seat but fell short due to absenteeism and cross-voting.
The Bihar outcome contributed to the NDA’s broader gains across states, with the alliance also winning seats in Odisha and Haryana. Counting in some states continued amid disputes, but Bihar delivered a clear and uncontested mandate in favour of the ruling coalition.
