New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a new digital platform called ‘Satyagraha’, aimed at bringing together people and groups involved in protests and rights-related movements across India.
Announcing the initiative, Gandhi said the platform would provide a common space for people to share details of their struggles and connect with others facing similar issues. He said many people across the country are raising their voices over matters such as land rights, women’s rights, Dalit and OBC rights, education and examinations.
Gandhi said the platform would bring these different movements together on a single map. People involved in protests can submit information about their causes and find other movements working on similar issues.
“Satyagraha” was launched a day after the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi referred to Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of standing up for truth through peaceful resistance while explaining the purpose of the new initiative.
In a video message, Gandhi said that people in different parts of the country were fighting for their rights, but many were doing so without wider support. He said the new platform was intended to make these struggles more visible and help connect people facing similar concerns.
Gandhi also said that, as Leader of the Opposition, he would try to support people whose issues were raised through the platform. He said he could take up such matters in Parliament, on the streets or through letters, depending on what was required.
The initiative invites citizens, students, farmers, Adivasis, Dalits, women and others involved in rights-based movements to register their concerns online. According to Gandhi, the platform is intended to create a common map of such movements and make it easier for people to find and support similar causes.
The launch comes as several protests and public campaigns on different issues continue in various parts of the country. The platform is being presented by Gandhi and the Congress as a way to bring these separate movements onto a common digital platform.
Gandhi said the initiative would focus on giving greater visibility to voices that he believes are being suppressed, and encouraged people involved in such struggles to share their stories through the platform.
