Prime Minister Narendra Modi has alleged that dynastic political parties are the main reason behind opposition to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, the Women’s Reservation Bill. Speaking at a public address on April 18–19, 2026, Modi said that parties run by family leadership fear losing control if women are given greater representation in legislatures.
Modi emphasized that the bill was designed to empower women by reserving seats in Parliament and state assemblies, calling it a historic step toward gender equality. He accused opposition parties of betraying the nation’s mothers, sisters, and daughters by blocking the legislation, and warned that women will not forgive this insult.
The Prime Minister specifically criticized Congress and other regional parties, claiming they used procedural excuses such as census-based delimitation to delay the bill. He argued that these tactics were meant to protect dynastic interests rather than advance democratic representation.
Modi described the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam as a “Mahayagya” (grand sacrifice) for the empowerment of women in the 21st century. He expressed regret that the opportunity was missed, but assured that his government will continue efforts to remove obstacles and push forward women’s reservation in the future.
Framing the issue as a clash between dynastic politics and women’s empowerment, Modi urged citizens to hold accountable those who opposed the bill. He said that women voters will play a decisive role in punishing parties that denied them their rightful place in governance.
