The Government of India has reduced export duties on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) effective May 1, 2026, while keeping excise duty on petrol unchanged.
Diesel export duty has been cut to ₹23 per litre from ₹55.5 per litre, and ATF export duty reduced to ₹33 per litre from ₹42 per litre. Petrol exports continue to attract zero duty.
Domestic excise duties on petrol and diesel remain stable, ensuring no immediate impact on retail fuel prices for consumers.
The move comes amid global crude oil volatility, with prices rising due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia. India’s fortnightly review mechanism allows adjustments to safeguard domestic supply while supporting refinery margins.
Officials emphasized that the calibrated duty cuts aim to balance export competitiveness with energy security, ensuring adequate availability of fuel in the domestic market.
