Security forces in Jammu & Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Tuesday destroyed an improvised explosive device (IED) in a controlled blast, averting a major tragedy. The device was detected during a routine patrol in the Khandli area, close to a busy road, and immediately cordoned off by police and Army personnel.
Bomb disposal squads were rushed to the site, and the IED was safely neutralised through a controlled explosion. Officials said the timely detection prevented possible casualties, as the area witnesses heavy civilian and security movement.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify those behind the planting of the explosive. Security has been tightened in Rajouri and adjoining districts, with additional checks at vulnerable points to prevent further attempts.
Authorities praised the alertness of the patrol team, noting that such recoveries highlight continued attempts by militants to disrupt peace in the region. The incident comes amid heightened security measures across Jammu & Kashmir following recent terror-related activities.
