New Delhi, August 25: India has strongly condemned the attack on United Nations peacekeepers deployed with the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), expressing concern over the targeting of personnel serving to maintain peace and stability in the conflict-affected country.
India reaffirmed its strong support for UN peacekeeping operations and stressed that attacks against peacekeepers are unacceptable. It called for respect for the safety and security of UN personnel carrying out their duties under the UN mandate.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the security of UN peacekeeping personnel working in challenging conditions in South Sudan. India emphasised the need to ensure adequate protection for peacekeepers and accountability for those responsible for attacks against them.
India has been a long-standing contributor to UN peacekeeping missions and has deployed personnel to various UN operations around the world, including in South Sudan.
New Delhi reiterated its commitment to the principles of multilateralism and international peace and security, while expressing solidarity with the UN personnel affected by the incident.
