Colombo, August 24: India declared their first innings at a commanding 503 for nine against Sri Lanka in the second and final Test.
Dhruv Jurel played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 115 runs to guide India to a huge total. He received valuable support from the middle order as India continued to build pressure on the hosts.
Devdutt Padikkal also made a significant contribution, scoring 117 runs and laying a strong foundation for India’s big first-innings total.
Rishabh Pant added further momentum with a useful 63-run contribution after returning to the crease following an injury concern on the opening day.
After India declared, Sri Lanka began their first innings but suffered an early setback. The hosts were reduced to 8 for two as India’s bowlers struck quickly.
Rain and poor weather conditions interrupted play, limiting Sri Lanka’s opportunity to build a partnership before the close of play.
India, already leading the two-Test series 1-0, strengthened their position by posting a massive total and taking two early wickets in Sri Lanka’s reply.
