New Delhi, August 25: The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has completed a decade of transforming India’s digital payments ecosystem, emerging as one of the country’s most widely used platforms for instant and seamless transactions.
Since its launch in 2016, UPI has recorded an unprecedented increase in transaction activity. Transaction volume has grown by nearly 13,000 times over the past decade, reflecting the rapid adoption of digital payments across the country.
UPI has made it possible for users to transfer money instantly between bank accounts using mobile phones, significantly simplifying everyday payments. Its widespread adoption has also reduced dependence on cash for a wide range of transactions.
The platform has become an important part of India’s digital economy, supporting payments between individuals, businesses and service providers. QR-code based payments have further expanded its use among small retailers and local businesses.
Over the years, UPI has continued to expand its capabilities and reach, contributing to greater convenience and accessibility in digital financial transactions.
The milestone marks a significant phase in India’s digital payments journey, with UPI continuing to play a central role in the country’s transition towards a more accessible and technology-driven payments ecosystem.
