Thimphu, November 12, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Kalachakra Empowerment ceremony in Bhutan today, underscoring India’s deep cultural and spiritual ties with the Himalayan nation. The event, presided over by senior Buddhist leaders, highlighted the shared heritage and values that continue to strengthen people-to-people connections between India and Bhutan.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated a major hydroelectric project, a flagship initiative of India–Bhutan cooperation in the energy sector. The project is expected to boost Bhutan’s renewable energy capacity while enhancing regional energy security and cross-border collaboration.
In addition, both sides signed a series of key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as trade, technology, education, and infrastructure development. The agreements reflect the commitment of India and Bhutan to expand their partnership and pursue sustainable growth together.
Officials from both governments emphasized that the visit marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations, combining cultural engagement with strategic cooperation. Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s support for Bhutan’s development priorities and expressed confidence in the enduring friendship between the two nations.
The visit is expected to pave the way for new initiatives that will strengthen India–Bhutan ties across multiple sectors, reinforcing the shared vision of prosperity, stability, and regional cooperation.
