Navi Mumbai, December 25, 2025: The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) has officially commenced commercial flight operations, marking a historic milestone in Maharashtra’s aviation sector. The first IndiGo flight from Bengaluru was welcomed with a water cannon salute, followed by departures to Hyderabad and other destinations.
On the opening day, around 30 flights were scheduled, including 15 arrivals and 15 departures. Airlines such as IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express, and Star Air began services connecting Navi Mumbai to major cities including Bengaluru, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad.
The airport will initially operate between 8 AM and 8 PM, easing congestion at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Developed under a public-private partnership model, NMIA is managed by the Adani Group with CIDCO as a stakeholder.
Phase I of the project, developed at a cost of Rs. 19,650 crore, is designed to handle 20 million passengers annually. Future phases will expand capacity to 90 million passengers, positioning NMIA as one of India’s largest aviation hubs.
Conceived in 1997 and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2025, the airport’s launch fulfills a long-awaited vision to strengthen connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and boost regional economic growth.
