National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Thursday reiterated that the decisions taken on August 5, 2019, were unconstitutional and continue to be rejected by the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the entire country stands with the people of the region on this issue, and the struggle for restoration of rights will persist.
Addressing party workers, Dr. Abdullah described the abrogation of Article 370 and the downgrading of Jammu and Kashmir into Union Territories as unilateral and undemocratic measures. He asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir had rejected these decisions from the very first day and remain committed to safeguarding their constitutional identity.
“Everyone knows that what happened on August 5, 2019, was unconstitutional. The whole country stands with us on this issue,” Dr. Abdullah said, adding that the National Conference will continue its peaceful and democratic struggle until full statehood and constitutional guarantees are restored.
He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to weaken the collective voice of the people by promoting proxy political formations. He emphasized that the NC will not allow such tactics to succeed and will remain steadfast in its mission to protect the rights and dignity of the people.
Dr. Abdullah further stated that once the Legislative Assembly is constituted, the National Conference will pass a resolution rejecting the August 5 decisions and prioritize the restoration of statehood. He urged party workers to remain united and vigilant against divisive forces.
