The Ministry of Ayush is advancing the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across Ayurveda and other Ayush systems, building on the Ayush Grid digital platform. The Ministry is exploring AI applications in healthcare, research, education, information services and investment facilitation as part of efforts to develop a technology-enabled digital ecosystem for traditional medicine.
A key focus of the initiative is the development of AI-enabled solutions that can support healthcare delivery, research and citizen services. The Ministry has highlighted applications including voice-based electronic health records, disease-trend detection and personalised treatment-support tools. These technologies are being explored to generate clinical insights, improve digital health services and support patient-centric care across Ayush systems.
The Ayush Grid is serving as the digital backbone for this transformation. According to the Ministry, 24 e-governance platforms have been developed under the initiative, covering areas such as healthcare, research and development, Ayush drug administration, medicinal plants, education, awareness and capacity building. The My Ayush Integrated Services Portal brings together various Ayush-related applications and services in a unified digital ecosystem.
The Ministry has also introduced AI-enabled tools and chatbots. Yoga Saarthi functions as an AI-based yoga recommendation chatbot, while Nivesh Saarthi provides AI-assisted support related to investment in the Ayush sector. These services represent an expansion of the Ayush Grid from conventional digital portals towards interactive and user-oriented AI services.
In July 2026, the Ministry of Ayush and IndiaAI, an initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to accelerate AI innovation in the traditional healthcare ecosystem. Under the agreement, the Ministry of Ayush will onboard AIKosh and contribute eligible anonymised health research artefacts, including datasets, metadata, AI models, toolkits and relevant use cases, subject to applicable policies and regulatory requirements.
The partnership also provides eligible stakeholders in the Ayush ecosystem with access to AI computing infrastructure through the IndiaAI Compute ecosystem. The infrastructure is intended to support advanced research, development of AI models and scalable healthcare applications. The MoU has an initial validity of two years, with provision for renewal by mutual agreement.
Multilingual technology is another area of development. The Ministry of Ayush and the Digital India BHASHINI Division signed an MoU in May 2026 to strengthen multilingual digital capabilities across the Ayush ecosystem. The collaboration covers multilingual AI models, translation APIs, voice-enabled technologies and language tools across all 22 languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
The Ministry is also working to strengthen digital healthcare infrastructure through the Ayush Hospital Management Information System (AHMIS), which is compliant with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. As of July 15, 2026, 5,386 Ayush health facilities had been onboarded onto AHMIS, while 6,002 facilities had been mapped through the PM GatiShakti Ayush Asset Mapping Tool.
AI applications have also been showcased through initiatives such as Yoga Posture AI, a computer-vision-based tool designed to help users check and correct yoga postures. Other AI-enabled applications under development are focused on areas including clinical decision support, standardisation, research analytics and public-health outreach across Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy.
The Ministry’s ongoing work reflects a broader effort to combine digital technologies with traditional medicine systems. Through the Ayush Grid, IndiaAI, AIKosh and BHASHINI collaborations, the Ministry is developing digital infrastructure intended to support research, multilingual access, healthcare services, education and innovation across the Ayush sector.
