Addressing probationers of the 2024 batch at Rashtrapati Bhavan, she underscored the importance of financial management in strengthening India’s defence preparedness and supporting indigenous production.
The President noted that the Defence Accounts Department occupies a crucial position in budgeting, accounting, auditing, payments, and providing financial advice to the Armed Forces and allied organisations. She highlighted that efficient financial practices directly contribute to operational readiness, infrastructure development, and transparency in defence expenditure.
Murmu urged officers to actively support the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by encouraging indigenous production, strengthening local supply chains, and promoting domestic industry. She stressed that self-reliance in defence is essential for national security and economic independence.
In her remarks, the President also called for quicker, smarter, and more accurate decision-making in light of evolving geopolitical and security challenges. She advised officers to adopt new skills and leverage technology, including AI-driven financial analytics, to ensure evidence-based decisions and efficient utilization of funds.
President Murmu reminded the probationers that ethics, fairness, transparency, and accountability must remain at the core of their service. She said that public trust is the foundation of governance, and the Defence Accounts Service must uphold the highest standards of integrity while contributing to the nation’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
