Senior BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma will be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam today in Guwahati, May 12, 2026. The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, with Governor Gulab Chand Kataria administering the oath of office.
Sarma, who played a pivotal role in the BJP’s sweeping victory in the Assam Assembly elections, will be assuming the Chief Minister’s post for the second consecutive term. The BJP-led NDA secured a decisive mandate, reinforcing its political dominance in the northeastern state.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by top BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, party president J.P. Nadda, and several Chief Ministers from other states. Thousands of supporters are also expected to gather in Guwahati to witness the historic event.
