New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has called on BRICS countries to work together to overcome the economic challenges facing the global community, stressing that stronger cooperation among member nations can help build a more stable and resilient economy.
Jaishankar said BRICS has an important role to play at a time when countries are dealing with uncertainty in trade, investment and global supply chains. He said the grouping should focus on practical areas of cooperation that can benefit its member countries and support economic growth.
He pointed out that the BRICS nations represent a substantial part of the world’s population and economy, giving the grouping considerable potential to influence global economic discussions. According to him, this strength should be used to promote closer economic ties and create new opportunities for development.
The minister also emphasised the importance of improving trade and investment links among BRICS members. Greater cooperation, he said, could help countries deal more effectively with disruptions and reduce vulnerabilities arising from changes in the international economic environment.
Jaishankar stressed that developing economies need a stronger voice in discussions on global economic issues. He said BRICS can provide an important platform for members to raise their concerns and work towards solutions that take the interests of emerging economies into account.
India, he said, remains committed to constructive engagement within BRICS and to strengthening cooperation among its members. New initiatives in areas such as trade, technology, finance and sustainable development could further deepen ties between the participating countries.
Jaishankar’s remarks underline India’s view that BRICS should remain focused not only on political cooperation but also on delivering tangible economic benefits for its members. As the grouping expands its international role, economic cooperation is expected to remain one of its key priorities.
