A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Tuesday night, October 6, with tremors felt in several parts of the state and across Delhi-NCR.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 10:23 p.m. IST at a depth of 13 kilometres. The agency’s reviewed data placed the epicentre in Chamoli.
Shaking was reported in Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Champawat and Rudraprayag. Residents in Haldwani, Rishikesh, Gopeshwar, Badrinath and other towns also felt the tremors. In Delhi and adjoining NCR areas, residents reported brief shaking following the earthquake.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
