New Delhi, November 11, 2025 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cold wave conditions across several northern and central states, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The department has warned that minimum temperatures are expected to drop by 2–4°C below normal in many areas over the next three to four days.
According to the IMD, cold to severe cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, East and West Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Night temperatures in parts of northwest India, particularly south Haryana, are expected to remain significantly below normal. Some districts may experience single-digit temperatures as icy northwesterly winds sweep across the plains.
The IMD has also noted that a strong Western Disturbance is bringing snowfall and rain to the Himalayan states, which is pushing cold winds into the northern and central belt. This weather system is expected to intensify winter conditions in adjoining regions, further lowering temperatures.
In addition, the department has forecast light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal during the next two days. Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi-NCR continues to remain in the severe category, with the average AQI recorded at 419 as of this morning.
The IMD has advised residents in affected states to take necessary precautions against the cold wave, particularly vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure public safety and preparedness.
