Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly condemned the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, describing it as a “cynical murder” that violates basic principles of international law and human morality. In a message addressed to Iran’s leadership, Putin expressed deep condolences to the Iranian people and Khamenei’s family.
Putin said the killing was an unacceptable act that could further destabilise the Middle East and undermine global security. He noted that Ayatollah Khamenei played a significant role in shaping Iran’s policies and strengthening ties between Moscow and Tehran.
The Russian leader also warned that such actions risk escalating regional tensions and called for restraint, dialogue and respect for international norms. His remarks add to growing international criticism of the strikes and concerns over the possibility of a wider conflict.
