The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for biennial elections to 24 seats of the Rajya Sabha, with polling set to take place on June 25, 2026.
The vacancies arise as the terms of sitting members from several states are due to expire in July, necessitating fresh elections to fill the Upper House positions.
States covered in this round include Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh, among others.
According to the Commission, nominations will open immediately, with scrutiny scheduled for June 14, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature fixed for June 17.
Polling will be conducted on June 25, with counting of votes to be held the same evening. The entire process will be completed before July 1, ensuring continuity in the functioning of the Rajya Sabha.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to free and fair elections, directing Chief Electoral Officers and Returning Officers to ensure strict adherence to guidelines and transparency in the conduct of the polls.
