India’s women’s football team defeated defending champions Bangladesh 3-0 in Margao, Goa, to top Group B of the SAFF Women’s Championship and advance to the semi-finals.
Pyari Xaxa opened the scoring in the 36th minute, while substitute Lynda Kom converted a penalty in the 78th minute to double the lead.
Malavika P sealed the victory with a stoppage-time strike, giving India their first win over Bangladesh in seven years.
Bangladesh had an early chance in the 2nd minute, but goalkeeper Panthoi Chanu Elangbam denied them with a crucial save.
India dominated possession and wing play throughout, maintaining their unbeaten run and keeping a clean sheet in the tournament.
With this win, India finished Group B with six points, following their earlier 11-0 victory over Maldives, while Bangladesh settled for second place.
India will face Bhutan in the semi-final on June 3, while Bangladesh will take on Nepal in the other semi-final.
