Panaji, 8 December 2025: Goa Police have registered an FIR against the owners and organisers of the nightclub where a devastating fire killed 25 people earlier this week. The case has been filed under sections related to negligence, endangering life and violations of mandatory safety norms.
According to officials, the fire broke out during a late-night event at the coastal venue, where a large crowd had gathered. Preliminary findings suggest that the establishment did not comply with essential fire-safety requirements, including functional emergency exits and updated safety certifications.
As part of the investigation, police detained the local sarpanch for questioning over alleged irregularities in permissions and oversight. Investigators are examining whether lapses in local-level clearances contributed to the tragedy or allowed the venue to operate without adequate safeguards.
Forensic teams have collected samples from the site to determine the exact cause of the blaze, while statements from survivors, staff and witnesses are being recorded. Officials said further action will be taken based on the evidence gathered.
The state government has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and directed district administrations to conduct immediate safety audits of nightlife venues, event spaces and high-footfall establishments across Goa.
