The Government of India has notified the set of questions to be posed to citizens during the first phase of the Census, scheduled to begin on April 1, 2026.
The notified questionnaire will cover key demographic and socio-economic details, including household composition, housing conditions, access to basic amenities, and educational status. The exercise is designed to ensure comprehensive data collection for policy planning and welfare schemes.
Officials have emphasized that the Census will be conducted in two phases, with the first phase focusing on housing and household data, followed by the population enumeration phase later in the year.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has reiterated that the Census is a critical exercise for evidence-based governance, enabling the government to assess developmental needs and allocate resources more effectively.
Citizens are encouraged to participate actively and provide accurate information, as the Census remains the cornerstone of India’s planning and policy framework.
