India tightened its grip on the one-off Test against Afghanistan, declaring their first innings at 564/8 before reducing the visitors to 113/5 at stumps on Day 2 in New Chandigarh.
Shubman Gill’s 126 and Rishabh Pant’s 81 powered India’s batting, while debutant Manav Suthar impressed with three wickets in Afghanistan’s reply. Prasidh Krishna added two scalps to leave the visitors trailing by 451 runs.
Rahmat Shah offered resistance with an unbeaten 43, but Afghanistan still needs 252 runs to avoid the follow-on. The pitch is expected to aid spin further as the match progresses.
With India in complete control, Afghanistan faces an uphill battle to stay competitive in the historic one-off Test.
