The Government of India has permitted the distribution of Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO) under the Public Distribution System (PDS) in 21 States and Union Territories. The move is aimed at ensuring affordable fuel access for households, particularly in rural and economically weaker sections.
Officials stated that the allocation of SKO will help meet essential cooking and lighting needs in regions where alternative energy sources remain limited. The distribution is expected to provide relief to families dependent on kerosene for daily use.
The inclusion of 21 States and UTs under this scheme reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening welfare measures and supporting vulnerable communities. The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to ensure energy security and equitable access across the country.
Authorities emphasized that the supply will be closely monitored to prevent misuse and ensure that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries. State governments and local agencies have been directed to oversee effective implementation.
The decision to allow SKO distribution under PDS highlights the government’s focus on balancing modern energy expansion with continued support for traditional fuel needs in underserved areas.
