The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have successfully conducted the test of an indigenous air droppable container from a P-8I maritime patrol aircraft, marking a significant step forward in strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence technology.
The trial was carried out to validate the container’s structural integrity, aerodynamic stability, and accuracy during mid-air release. The system is designed to safely deliver essential supplies and specialised payloads to remote or inaccessible maritime locations, enhancing the Navy’s operational reach.
Officials said the container performed as expected during the test, meeting all mission objectives. Data collected during the drop confirmed the reliability of the indigenously developed system under operational conditions.
The air droppable container has been designed and developed by DRDO laboratories in collaboration with the Indian Navy, aligning with the government’s push for indigenous defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Senior defence officials noted that the successful trial will significantly boost the Indian Navy’s logistics and surveillance capabilities, particularly during long-range maritime missions, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief operations.
Further user trials and operational clearances are expected before the system is inducted into regular service, officials added.
