New Delhi, November 5, 2025 — The Government of India has launched 100 dedicated 5G labs across the country to strengthen research and development in next-generation telecom technologies, with a strategic focus on advancing 6G innovation.
Announced by the Ministry of Communications, the initiative aims to empower academic institutions, startups, and industry partners to explore cutting-edge applications of 5G and lay the groundwork for India’s leadership in 6G standards and patents.
The labs will serve as hubs for experimentation, skill development, and collaborative research in areas such as AI-driven networks, smart mobility, industrial automation, and rural connectivity. They are part of the broader Bharat 6G Vision, which targets global competitiveness and technological sovereignty.
Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal emphasized that the move aligns with India’s goal to secure a significant share of global 6G intellectual property by 2030. The labs will also support interoperability, cybersecurity, and sustainable infrastructure development.
The announcement was made during the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025, where stakeholders from academia, government, and industry reaffirmed their commitment to building a robust digital future.
