India, under its 2026 BRICS Presidency, hosted the second BRICS ICT Working Group meeting virtually on May 21, 2026. The Department of Telecommunications organised the session, bringing together senior officials and representatives from BRICS member nations to strengthen cooperation in digital technologies, future networks, and Digital Public Infrastructure.
The meeting was held under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability” and the ICT Track sub-theme “Innovate, Cooperate and Transform (ICT) for a Resilient Future.” Discussions focused on bridging the digital divide, promoting innovation-led growth, enhancing digital resilience, and ensuring affordable and meaningful connectivity across emerging economies.
India presented a concept note on BRICS Capacity Building Centres, aimed at promoting skilling, knowledge-sharing, technical training, research cooperation, and capacity development in emerging digital and telecom technologies. The initiative reflects India’s commitment to empowering citizens, enhancing public service delivery, and accelerating inclusive development across the Global South.
Member countries also discussed proposals relating to Child Online Protection and strengthening BRICS Digital Ecosystem Cooperation. The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of BRICS nations to building secure, trusted, and resilient digital infrastructure for inclusive and sustainable growth.
