New Delhi, August 20: India has delivered a fresh consignment of medicines and medical consumables to a government hospital in Kabul, reaffirming its continued humanitarian assistance and longstanding health partnership with the people of Afghanistan. The assistance is aimed at strengthening healthcare services and addressing the medical needs of the Afghan population.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the latest assistance reflects India’s continued commitment to supporting the healthcare requirements of the Afghan people. The ministry described the initiative as an effort to augment healthcare services at the government hospital in Kabul.
The latest consignment forms part of India’s broader humanitarian engagement with Afghanistan, which includes the provision of essential medicines, medical supplies, relief materials and other forms of assistance. New Delhi has repeatedly emphasised its longstanding relationship with the Afghan people and its commitment to supporting their humanitarian needs.
India’s assistance has included substantial medical support in recent years. According to information provided to Parliament, India supplied 124 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies to Afghanistan during the 2025-26 financial year, along with other essential and relief materials.
Healthcare assistance has been an important component of India’s engagement with Afghanistan. In earlier years, India supplied essential lifesaving medicines and medical supplies, including assistance channelled through international organisations for use at hospitals in Kabul.
The latest delivery comes as Afghanistan continues to face significant humanitarian and healthcare challenges. India’s medical assistance is intended to help strengthen the capacity of healthcare facilities and ensure that essential medicines and consumables are available to patients who require treatment.
Earlier this year, India also sent emergency medical assistance to Kabul following a deadly attack, providing medicines, medical disposables, kits and equipment to support the treatment and recovery of those injured.
India has maintained that its engagement with Afghanistan is guided by humanitarian considerations and its longstanding ties with the Afghan people. The government has continued diplomatic exchanges as well as humanitarian and development assistance, with healthcare remaining an important area of cooperation.
The delivery of medicines to the Kabul government hospital underscores India’s continuing role in supporting Afghanistan’s healthcare sector and reflects New Delhi’s stated commitment to extending humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people during difficult circumstances.
