Dinesh Karthik has touched a raw nerve ahead of India’s T20 World Cup semi-final clash against England, invoking memories of the 2016 Wankhede heartbreak to caution the team about the venue’s high-pressure environment.
Speaking at a press roundtable arranged by JioHotstar, Karthik reminded that Wankhede Stadium is known for scoreboard drama, where even totals of 180 or 190 can look chaseable, and matches can turn on a single over or mistake.
He recalled the 2016 semi-final when India’s 192-run total, powered by Virat Kohli’s masterclass, was chased down by West Indies’ power hitters, highlighting how the pitch can neutralize big scores.
Karthik warned that India must remain vigilant against England’s pace attack and batting depth, stressing that Wankhede doesn’t allow complacency and requires sharp execution under pressure.
