India’s Arjun Erigaisi and Koneru Humpy secured bronze medals at the 2025 FIDE World Rapid Chess Championships in Doha, adding to India’s growing stature in global chess.
In the men’s section, Arjun Erigaisi finished with 9.5 points after 13 rounds, tying with Vladislav Artemiev, Hans Niemann, and Leinier Dominguez Perez. Tie-break scores placed Artemiev second, while Erigaisi claimed the bronze, underlining his consistency against a world-class field.
In the women’s section, Koneru Humpy also clinched bronze following a strong campaign. Aleksandra Goryachkina won the title after a tie-break victory over Zhu Jiner, with Humpy finishing third to reaffirm her standing among India’s most accomplished players.
Magnus Carlsen captured his sixth World Rapid title with 10.5 points, while Goryachkina secured the women’s crown. The twin bronze medals for Erigaisi and Humpy highlighted India’s depth of talent and continued rise in international chess.
