Union Minister Jitendra Singh has announced that India’s bioeconomy is projected to reach 300 billion dollars by 2030, underscoring the country’s growing strength in biotechnology, healthcare innovation, and sustainable development.
Speaking at a national event, Singh highlighted that India’s bioeconomy has already crossed the 100 billion dollar mark, driven by advances in biopharma, bio-agriculture, bio-services, and bio-industrial sectors.
He emphasized that government initiatives, including support for startups, research institutions, and industry collaborations, are accelerating growth in biotechnology and allied fields. The expansion of bio-manufacturing and bio-based products is expected to play a key role in achieving the 2030 target.
Singh noted that India’s bioeconomy is not only contributing to economic growth but also addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and healthcare accessibility. He said the sector’s progress reflects India’s commitment to innovation-led development.
Experts believe that with continued investment in research, infrastructure, and policy support, India can emerge as a global leader in biotechnology and bio-based industries, creating new opportunities for employment and sustainable growth.
The projection of 300 billion dollars by 2030 signals a transformative shift, positioning India’s bioeconomy as a cornerstone of its future economic and scientific landscape.
