Srinagar, Jun 27: Jammu and Kashmir Police have launched ‘Project Hawk Eye’ to strengthen security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, deploying advanced surveillance systems and coordinated monitoring across sensitive routes.
Officials said the initiative integrates drone surveillance, facial-recognition CCTV cameras, GPS-enabled patrols, and AI-powered monitoring to ensure real-time tracking of pilgrim convoys. The project also includes elevated watchtowers, RFID-based pilgrim verification, and quick-response teams positioned along vulnerable stretches.
Senior police officers emphasized that Project Hawk Eye is designed to provide a multi-layered security shield, combining technology with ground deployment. The system will help detect suspicious movements, prevent infiltration, and ensure rapid response to emergencies during the pilgrimage.
The Amarnath Yatra, beginning July 3, will see lakhs of devotees traveling through the Baltal and Pahalgam routes. Authorities said the new initiative reflects their commitment to ensuring a safe and smooth pilgrimage experience, following intelligence inputs and past security challenges.
Project Hawk Eye is expected to set a new benchmark in pilgrimage security management, reinforcing public confidence and enhancing coordination among multiple agencies involved in safeguarding the annual Yatra.
