The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) has stated that implementing the ‘One Nation, One Election’ framework could save nearly ₹7 lakh crore in expenditure and boost India’s GDP growth by 1.6 per cent.
The proposal aims to synchronize Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections, reducing the frequency of polls and associated costs while ensuring greater policy stability and governance efficiency.
According to the JPC, the savings would come from reduced administrative, security, and logistical expenses, while the GDP boost would result from uninterrupted governance and minimized disruptions to economic activity.
Officials emphasized that the model could strengthen democratic processes by increasing voter participation, streamlining electoral management, and enhancing transparency.
The report highlights that ‘One Nation, One Election’ is not only a cost-saving measure but also a structural reform to align India’s democratic and economic growth trajectories.
