Srinagar, December 1: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah has urged party Members of Parliament to prioritize the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and intensify efforts to press for the restoration of statehood.
Addressing a meeting with MPs, Dr Abdullah emphasized that the voice of the people must remain central to all parliamentary interventions. He said the demand for statehood is not merely political but a necessity to safeguard democratic rights and ensure effective governance.
“Our foremost duty is to represent the aspirations of the people. The restoration of statehood is fundamental to rebuilding trust and empowering institutions,” Dr Abdullah told the gathering.
He directed MPs to raise issues of public concern, including unemployment, development, and security, while reiterating that the party’s stand on statehood remains firm and uncompromising.
Senior leaders present at the meeting noted that the renewed push for statehood will be accompanied by a broader campaign to highlight the challenges faced by the Union Territory in Parliament and beyond.
