Kashmir’s higher reaches received the first snowfall of the season, bringing a noticeable change in weather conditions across the Valley. The snowfall was reported in several upper-altitude areas, while many plains witnessed rain and a sharp drop in temperatures.
The fresh snowfall covered the higher mountain ranges in a white blanket, adding to the scenic beauty of the Valley. Popular tourist destinations and upper reaches witnessed the first significant spell of snow, attracting attention from tourists and local residents alike.
Several areas also experienced intermittent rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and hail in some places. The sudden change in weather brought relief from the recent warm conditions and led to a decline in daytime temperatures across many parts of Kashmir.
The Meteorological Department has forecast generally variable weather conditions in the coming days, with the possibility of light rain or showers at isolated places. Authorities have advised residents and travellers, particularly those heading towards higher reaches, to remain cautious due to changing weather and road conditions.
The arrival of the season’s first snowfall has also raised hopes among tourism stakeholders, as winter weather traditionally attracts visitors to Kashmir’s snow-covered destinations. The snowfall is expected to enhance the appeal of places such as Gulmarg and other higher-altitude tourist locations.
