Lucknow, Jun 23: A massive fire broke out at a coaching centre in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Tuesday, claiming the lives of at least 15 people and injuring several others.
Officials said the blaze erupted in the multi-storey building during afternoon hours, trapping students and staff inside. Firefighters rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations, evacuating dozens of people from the premises.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as thick smoke engulfed the building, making it difficult for those inside to escape. Rescue teams used ladders and hydraulic platforms to bring people to safety.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief over the tragedy and directed officials to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured. He also ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident and assured strict action against those found guilty of negligence.
Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the coaching centre management for violation of safety norms. Preliminary investigations suggest lapses in fire safety compliance contributed to the scale of the disaster.
The Uttar Pradesh government announced compensation for the families of the deceased and said arrangements are being made for the treatment of the injured.
The incident has sparked widespread concern over fire safety standards in educational institutions, with authorities pledging stricter enforcement to prevent recurrence of such tragedies.
