Mumbai, November 5, 2025 — The Maharashtra Government has approved the extension of the Uttan–Virar Sea Link to Vadhavan Port, marking a significant step toward strengthening coastal infrastructure and improving regional connectivity along the Konkan coast.
The extended corridor is expected to facilitate seamless movement between northern suburbs of Mumbai and the upcoming deep-sea port at Vadhavan, reducing travel time and boosting economic activity in the region. The project aligns with the state’s broader vision to enhance maritime logistics and support industrial growth.
Officials stated that the extension will integrate with existing transport networks and provide a strategic link for cargo movement, tourism, and emergency response. The initiative is also expected to ease congestion on inland routes and promote balanced urban development.
Environmental and feasibility assessments are underway, with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) overseeing implementation. The project is anticipated to generate employment opportunities and attract investments in port-led development zones.
The government reiterated its commitment to sustainable infrastructure and inclusive growth, emphasizing that the sea link extension will serve as a catalyst for regional transformation and international trade facilitation.
