New Delhi, November 5, 2025 — The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially unveiled the India AI Governance Guidelines, a strategic framework aimed at promoting safe, transparent, and responsible adoption of artificial intelligence across sectors.
The guidelines outline key principles for ethical AI development, including fairness, accountability, privacy protection, and inclusivity. They are designed to support innovation while safeguarding citizens’ rights and ensuring alignment with national priorities.
MeitY emphasized that the framework will serve as a reference for government agencies, startups, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders to build AI systems that are trustworthy and socially beneficial. It also encourages voluntary compliance and sector-specific adaptations.
The release follows extensive consultations with experts, civil society, and global partners, and aligns with India’s broader digital strategy under the Digital India initiative. The guidelines also support interoperability with international standards and promote India’s leadership in ethical AI governance.
Officials stated that the framework will evolve with technological advancements and public feedback, reinforcing India’s commitment to inclusive and human-centric AI development.
