NITI Aayog convened a stakeholder consultation on July 11, 2026, to discuss the implementation of the SHANTI Act, 2025. The consultation brought together representatives from government ministries, industry stakeholders, nuclear energy experts, and civil society groups to deliberate on the Act’s provisions and roadmap for execution.
The SHANTI Act, which allows up to 49% foreign equity in nuclear projects and eases supplier liability rules, was designed to boost India’s nuclear energy capacity while ensuring safety and accountability. During the consultation, participants emphasized the importance of balancing investment opportunities with stringent safety standards and transparent governance.
Key focus areas included streamlining regulatory approvals, enhancing public awareness about nuclear energy, strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities, and fostering international partnerships. Officials highlighted that effective implementation of the Act would accelerate India’s clean energy transition and contribute to long-term energy security.
NITI Aayog underscored that the consultation was part of its broader effort to ensure inclusive policymaking, where diverse voices contribute to shaping India’s nuclear energy future. The outcomes of the meeting are expected to guide the next phase of policy directives and operational frameworks under the SHANTI Act.
