The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced nine candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha biennial elections across six states. The nominations include prominent leaders and fresh faces, reflecting the party’s strategy to balance regional representation and organizational strength.
In Bihar, party president Nitin Nabin and leader Shivesh Kumar have been fielded for two of the five vacant seats. Assam will see MLA Terash Gowalla and cabinet minister Jogen Mohan contesting two of the three seats. In Chhattisgarh, Laxmi Verma, a member of the State Women Commission, has been nominated.
The BJP has also announced candidates in Maharashtra, Odisha, and Haryana, where contests are expected. The biennial elections will fill 37 Rajya Sabha seats across 10 states, with voting scheduled for March 16, 2026, and counting to take place the same day.
Party officials emphasized that the nominations reflect BJP’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the Upper House while ensuring representation from diverse regions and backgrounds.
