New Delhi, Dec 01: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of India’s continued support under Operation Sagar Bandhu, as Cyclone Ditwah leaves widespread devastation across several parts of the island nation.
According to officials, Prime Minister Modi spoke with President Dissanayake over phone and conveyed his heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives and large-scale destruction caused by the cyclone. He reaffirmed that the people of India stand firmly with the people of Sri Lanka during this challenging period.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for India’s prompt response and timely humanitarian assistance. He noted that the deployment of rescue teams, essential relief supplies, and medical support under Operation Sagar Bandhu has been vital in reaching cyclone-affected communities.
India’s relief mission is being coordinated by the Ministry of External Affairs under the leadership of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, with extensive operational support from the Indian Navy and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Multiple consignments of relief material have already been dispatched to Colombo and northern districts severely impacted by the cyclone.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated that India, guided by its Vision MAHASAGAR and its role as the region’s First Responder, will continue to extend all necessary assistance as Sri Lanka begins rehabilitation efforts, restores essential services, and works to rebuild affected livelihoods.
The conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has been welcomed by officials as a strong reaffirmation of India’s commitment to regional partnership and humanitarian solidarity with Sri Lanka.
