KOLKATA, Apr 7: The Election Commission of India has released the full voter list in West Bengal under judicial review as part of the Special Intensive Revision exercise. For the first time, district-wise details have been published, marking voters as either eligible or ineligible.
Officials said more than 60 lakh names were scrutinized during the process. Of these, over 32 lakh voters have been confirmed as eligible, while nearly 27 lakh have been marked ineligible. Murshidabad recorded the highest exclusions with about 4.55 lakh names removed, followed by North 24 Parganas with 3.25 lakh deletions.
The Supreme Court directed the Election Commission and the West Bengal government to provide logistical support to judicial officers supervising the revision. More than 500 judicial officers are engaged in verifying claims and objections, which numbered over 60 lakh during the exercise.
Officials emphasized that the updated voter list is critical for ensuring transparency and fairness in the upcoming Assembly elections. Voters are advised to verify their names in the electoral roll through official channels provided by the Election Commission.
